MLC Cornhole Tournament: A Great Turnout for a Great Cause

OLD TENNIS COURTS–The annual MLC Cornhole Tournament recently took place, and as usual, the turnout was impressive.  This has been a recent tradition within the MLC club, with the money going to different charities and recruiting for the MLC.  This year’s winners were Frank and Graham Basile, although everyone seems to agree that winning the tournament is hardly the most important part of the event.

MLC, which stands for Marianist Life Community, is a group of students and faculty who meet together for food, prayer and community throughout the year.  There are about 15-20 core members of MLC, and most of those core members attended a Marianist LIFE retreat during the summer to help them grow in faith and develop as a leader.  They come back to Chaminade and share those gifts with the student body.

The core members are passionate about their role in MLC. They are always looking to recruit and improve the club and the community. These juniors and seniors will often lead their prayer services throughout the school year and are some of the best models of Esto Vir on the campus.  This includes some of the social events, including the Cornhole Tournament.

This year, all of the money raised by the Cornhole Tournament was donated to suicide prevention service. While students competed against one another and socialized, the core members also served a chili lunch for every student who played this year on the old tennis courts.

You do not have to be a student to participate. Mr. Massa was on a team that took a dive into the tournament this year. This is an example of how there are many great relationships between students and teachers in these current grades.

Mr. Mug, the head of the middle school MLC states, “This is just a great opportunity for students to socialize and meet new people while helping for a great charity.”
