Chaminade’s lone senior player, Mark Jackson, knew the spotlight would shine solely on him during Friday night’s game against the Trinity Titans. Starting the game at the point guard position and sporting the McBride orange and green, Jackson didn’t let his teammates or himself down. Shortly after the 4th quarter began, at the 7:01 mark to be specific, Coach Bennett subbed Jackson out ending his night on the court with a solid 12 points and shooting 50% from the field. MJ’s engagement in the game did not end after taking a seat on the bench however, Jackson cheered intently for his classmate Ryan Gray, a manager who was asked to suit up for senior night. Though Mark Jackson didn’t get to see Gray score, the night ended on a positive note with a 77-36 victory.

Beginning the contest on a 22-3 run, CCP dominated the 1st quarter. Filip Sinobad scored 7 points off of a driving layup, a three pointer, and an offensive put back. Mark Jackson did a tremendous job finishing at the rim, as the senior guard made two separate layups coming off creative euro step moves. Paired with three free throws, MJ finished the first quarter with 7 points. As he has done all season, Tarris Reed continued to dominate at the rim, slamming down back-to-back dunks which pushed the score to 22-3 midway through the first. Chaminade’s initial eight minutes were domination.

The Red Devils picked up right where they left off in the second quarter, scoring 8 straight points until Trinity’s Malcom Harvey banked in a floater to bring the score to 36-10 in favor of the Red Devils. From there, CCP went on a 13-7 run highlighted by two Tarris Reed Dunks, a Damien Mayo and-one finish at the rim, and a contested layup by MJ Jackson. Trinity’s coach called timeout with 1:43 remaining in the half. Chaminade’s final score of the second quarter would be the result of a Mayo layup off an inbounds play, going into the locker room at halftime, CCP led 51-20.

Mark Jackson picked up right where he left off, sinking the opening three pointer of the third quarter. The senior guard’s trey ball was followed by a Reed dunk. Trinity responded with two three pointers of their own and at the 5:13 mark Trinity called timeout. Both squads traded buckets back and fourth for the remainder of the third quarter. Nate Straughter got hot sinking two three pointers, an up-and-under layup, a free throw, and another contested layup. The junior guard scored 11 in just the third quarter. Going into the final eight minutes, Chaminade led 76-32.

With the accelerated clock on, the last quarter was fairly uneventful. Manager Ryan Gray checked into the game at the 7:41 mark, and the crowd went ecstatic. Everyone in the gym was cheering for Gray to make a basket. While the manager was able to get four good shots off, they couldn’t quite fall. The final score read: Chaminade 77 Trinity 36.
