Inside Look at Chaminade Football’s Pregame Routines

Inside+Look+at+Chaminade+Footballs+Pregame+Routines

Our Chaminade football players have routines before games so that they can prepare themselves for the tough competition. The players start before the game by going to the chapel as a team and having a prayer service to mentally and spiritually prepare. Next, they eat their pregame meal to get some nutrients before they play. Then, some players will go to the locker room and get energized by listening to some music. Then they talk with players and coaches and head to the field to warm up.

When the team goes to the chapel it is a serious time because praying before the game is one of the most important steps to prepare. The next step for players is going to the locker room and getting hype and listening to some music. Sophomore defensive back and wide receiver DeKarai Weaver says, “I like to listen to YoungBoy, Kendrick Lamar, and a little bit of Rod Wave.” This type of rap music helps players feel ready for the game. Then they go meet up with coaches to have a talk about their gameplan.

The next step is getting dressed and ready for the game. The players put their pads on and get dressed. They will then go to the grotto and say a Hail Mary. Then they go down to the field to warm up. The players start by stretching as a team and doing dynamic and static stretches. Then they go to positional groups to practice in-game situations. Next comes the national anthem, and it’s time to play some football.

A pregame routine is one of the most important things a player can do because it gets his mind and body right for the game. When players have something they can rely on to be the same before every game, it really helps them prepare and play better. Some players have it down to an exact science and do the exact same thing before every game, but others just go with the flow.
