In the Siefert Theatre on October 9th, 10th, and 11th at 7 p.m., you can catch Chaminade’s All School Play, Puffs (or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic). Yes, that is the name. This play is basically a parody of a certain magical series, but from the perspective of the “Puffs”, members of the Puffs house.
In 2015, Puffs was developed by an improv group, so there are many lines for CCP Drama actors to “pick their own” from the options given in the script.
Instead of the traditional protagonists being The Braves’ most famous trio, you have The Puff’s Wayne Hopkins, Oliver Rivers, and Megan Jones.
Charlie Caruso portrays Wayne Hopkins, the American counterpart to a certain magical boy, who is also an orphan who discovers he is a wizard.
Maya Zimmerman (St. Joseph’s Academy, ’26) says, “I like that I get to embrace a different character and personality than anything I’ve ever done before. When playing the gothic Megan Jones, I enjoy jumping into the snarky/mean side of myself.”
Kieran Thompson (’31) plays Harry himself. He mentions that “portraying [a certain magical boy] as rude and bratty is how Puffs sheds light on this character, compared to the original. I also love being British.” In Puffs, Harry is almost seen as the “antagonist” – aside from Mister Voldy.
Whether you are a fan of the original magical series or not, this production is comedic, heartfelt, and whimsical! The run time is about 90 minutes. And, remember, admission is free for all Chaminade students and faculty.
