In recent years, there have been some awful house shirt designs, some notably bad ones are “GRAY.” and O’Donnell’s “Goblin Gang.” There have also been some notably good shirts, such as “Llama Mentality” and “Graytful Dead.” We asked students whether House Shirts should be worth points, why, and how they would be scored.
The overwhelming majority of students agree that shirts should be worth points. Many state that it would persuade them to wear the shirts outside of Chaminade and have more enjoyable House Cup Events.
Keegan McCarthy, ’27, states, “If the house shirts were worth points, I think that there would be some awesome designs that would blow the current ones out of the water.”
The consensus from the student body is that there is no downside from house shirts being worth points. It would promote more teamwork in the house system and eliminate laziness.
Cole Lawrence, ’27, said, “I would love to see more students help in coming up with ideas and designs for the shirts. If some classmates made hand drawings for the shirts, I think that would be something special to wear.”
There were many ideas for ways of scoring the shirts, but my personal favorite is by incorporating the whole school. The voting would be made into two sections: the administrators and the houses. The administrators would have their own vote worth a certain number of points. Each house would then get a separate Google form where they could not vote for their own house.
The Chaminade student body has a consensus that they want to see the house shirts worth points. Who do you think would have won this year?
