Chaminade recently got clearing to begin construction of a brand new, state-of-the-art, hockey facility here on campus. The new facility will include two rinks, four locker rooms, a restaurant, a hockey-only weight room, and much more.
The money for this project has been put up by Chaminade Alum in the class of 1987, Evan Callahan, who played 600 games in the NHL for the New York Rangers, St. Louis Blues, and San Jose Sharks. His name will be on the front of the arena, as you will see “Callahan Family Arena” in lights when you walk into the arena.
The rink itself will have full seating around the rink with 7,500 seats, a full concourse with concession stands and local restaurants, a team store, 13 suites, and a club level. It will also have a press level, as if you missed it, Chaminade signed a deal with FanDuel Sports Midwest to show all Chaminade Home Games through the 2041-42 school year.
There is a lot of excitement around the school, as many students have said things such as “Having a rink on campus would be sick” and “Here come the state championships.”
Even the administration is as excited as the students, as one anonymous administrator said, “I really think this will put Chaminade on the map as a hockey school. We have been looking to grow our brand for a long time now, as we think this will be our big break. We would like to thank the Callahan family for their contributions to Chaminade throughout the years, and we are excited to see how far we can go in the playoffs.”
Construction on the arena will commence on February 29th of next year, as the expected opening will be the first game of the 2028-29 season.
The entire Chaminade community is looking forward to this groundbreaking, except for one thing that was put in place by the Callahan family: APRIL FOOLS!!!
