Viragh-Palooza is an event that has been going on for over a decade at Chaminade. The celebration started in 2014, and this year will mark its eleventh anniversary (did not happen in 2020 or 2021) on May 8th from 2:50-4:30. The festival of creativity aims at pointing out the amazing visual arts of the students at Chaminade. Visual Arts often go overlooked, and this is a great way for them to be noticed.
This year there are many new and returning students and events that will take place, including some hands on, rhythmical, and displays.
Some of the displays that will be featured this year are the pottery sale, middle and high school art exhibits, and the Senior Showcase. First, the pottery aale. Students at Chaminade have worked hard all year and have made many pots and objects that will be on sale at a great price. These could be great gifts or valuables to have, especially since Mother’s Day is coming up soon.
Next, many pieces of art from the middle school and high school will be displayed in the Rotunda. The students have accumulated some of their best work and it will be on full display for everyone to see.
Finally, one last display is the Senior Showcase. You can almost think of it as “Senior Night” and one last send off from the art program. Many of their art pieces will be displayed upstairs for all to see.

Along with the displays, there will be many different activities going on throughout the event. James Eisenhart will hold a Raku Firing display where you can view a dramatic firing of glazed glassware being placed into a container with combustible materials and flames.
The middle school will be hosting a paint by number portrait. There will also be plenty of food options. Students can try the Fender Blender and make their own smoothie using the power of a bike. Popcorn will be handed out for free. Snow cones will also be available for purchase at the cheap price of 50 cents.
Weather permitting, Bro. Eppy’s geometry class as well as art classes may have chalk drawings to view on the black top. If you get bored, you can play a few games of Giant Jenga or cornhole. Mr. Pendleton will be hosting a drum circle for all to join in on and keep rhythm. A few other final possibilities that may occur are live music from the school band, a display from the Black Student Union, and Sam Feldman may make an appearance to do more window drawings.
Viragh-Palooza is a festival of creativity that aims to show the great visual arts of many students at Chaminade. All are welcome and highly encouraged to visit the festival to see all the great and fun works.
