“I definitely win 1 v 1. He can’t guard me”
“He can say all that, but what happens when I put him in the rim?”
Those were the answers from brothers Jonny (senior) and Luke Jordan (freshman) when asked who wins driveway matchups. This kind of trash talk between big brother and little brother is common. However, what Jonny and Luke hope to accomplish this year is anything but.
When Jonny found out Luke would be joining him on the varsity basketball team this year, he said, “It’s a very surreal feeling. I was just proud of him.”
Luke felt the same way: “It was super exciting because we’ve always worked out together and played against each other.”
What they haven’t done yet, though, is play with each other.
They have already been getting after it at practice with both telling me that “we get competitive with each other all the time.”
But, while they may fight like all brothers do, not all brothers might admire each other the way these two do.
Jonny told me, “I admire the way he controls the ball and his athleticism.”
Luke said, “I definitely admire the way he can shoot. He really be shooting like that.”
My final question for the pair was how they think they are going to look back on this season years from now.
Jonny explained, “I feel like we are going to look back at this season like it was great, especially after we win state, go down in history, and do it together.”
Luke shared a similar sentiment: “I feel like we are going to look back and enjoy the moments we shared after we get the W this season.”
In my interview with Jonny last year (click here to read), he told me that his main goal was to win state, just like it is this year. However, what stood out to me about his response this year was that he didn’t just want to win state, he wants he and his brother to “do it together.”
It’s rare two brothers get that opportunity. Try to keep up.
