The Senior vs Faculty Basketball game is known to be one of the greatest annual traditions at Chaminade. The game is played every year on the Friday of Mission Week, and the stakes could not be higher. The class of ’26 has been known by many as a quite “spirited” class, and many of the teachers cannot wait to embarrass their students on the court.
Mrs. Wright says, “I am scared for the seniors. I don’t know if I am supposed to be saying this, but I think Coach Bennett is going to come out of retirement and dunk on all of y’all. If I speak it, it may be fact.”
Mr. Schilly, a key contributor in past years, says that “I have done nothing to prepare. I haven’t shot a basketball since last year’s game. With that being said, I still would like to score on AJ Brown. It would be very satisfying.”
Mr. Twellman, another key contributor, said that he wasn’t going to give me any “locker room, bulletin-board material,” and refused to tell me any seniors he would like to score on. However, he would tell me that “the faculty are looking to improve with our new additions, Coach Hanna and Coach Kohlschreiber. They have a lot of size, we need them to get some rebounds.”
The teachers’ responses reflected one simple message: We are back and better than ever, and we are here to handle business. As for the seniors, they have a much different approach.
Tristan Lloyd tells me that, “If there’s a fast break, I’m going to try to dunk. I don’t want to be selfish, but I might just have to. I really want to score on Dr. Barnidge if he were playing because I want to humble him.”
Tyler Williamson, another senior, says, “I am going to play like Julian Newman. Take over the game when I’m out there. I’ll run it, but I will. I want to score on Schilly. Give me iso, and I’m going take it to the rack.”
Paddy Keller, Gray House Captain, says, “I’ve been grinding 2k My Career a lot recently, so that should help. If I see Keizer on the court at all, I’m telling him to call iso on me. I ain’t afraid of no old dude out of their prime. When I drive the lane, I’m going to send him into the ground. Oh, and for Mr. Massa, if he tries to guard me, I will make him regret it.”
But a wise man once said that talk is cheap. Next Friday at 2:00, the whole Chaminade community will get to see who can really walk the walk. The game will be streamed on Hudl.tv, broadcast by Chaminade Basketball’s very own Jonny Jordan, Tricy Collins, and Isaac Newman, the only seniors not allowed to play in the game. You won’t want to miss it.
