The 2020 Chaminade Sharing & Caring Drive has begun, and as with everything in 2020, the Sharing and Caring Drive was done a little differently. This year, Chaminade is sponsoring 4 organizations, with each week being dedicated to one specific organization.

In the first week of the drive, Chaminade had a dignity of life diaper drive that benefitted ThriVe. ThriVe is a pregnancy counseling agency. The Mission of ThriVe is, “Christ-centered organization that empowers women and men to make life-affirming, estimable and healthy decisions about sex, pregnancy, and relationships” from https://www.charitynavigator.org/. Thrive has over 2 million dollars in contributions and helps parents make the right decision about pregnancy.

In the second week of the Sharing and Caring Drive, we helped the St. Louis Area Foodbank. Students were asked to bring in canned goods for a donation to the foodbank. The St. Louis Area Foodbank takes money and canned good donations to help feed those that are less fortunate and cannot afford to put food on the table every day. There mission statement is to “Build stronger communities by empowering people with food and hope.”

The third week of the Sharing and Caring Drive benefitted the men of Father Dempsey’s and families of Parents as Teachers. Each mentor group was asked to buy a gift card for a child or a family or fill a gift request from a man at Father Dempsey’s. Father Dempsey’s provides housing, food, and provides a social life for impoverished men. Parents as teaches is a non-profit that helps parents teach their kids in the years leading to kindergarten. They believe that those are the most important learning years of your life.

The final organization for the sharing and caring drive was Back@You. This drive helped the homeless and we donated thermal socks, hand or body warmers, ponchos, snacks, winter coats, or donations of money. Back@You is a non-profit organization that helps the homeless by providing them with backpacks that have at least one handmade scarf. In this case, we are donating all of these items so they can have more than just a scarf in their bag.

This year the Sharing and Caring Drive was very successful. We donated to 4 different organizations from causes to benefit many different things. Considering we had a new format, Chaminade can be proud of the results we had for this year’s drive.
